Description

Cayenne eco leather is the material we reach for when a client asks for upholstery “like leather, but without the stress over every stain”. It is soft, pleasantly warm to the touch and clearly more flexible than the stiff, hard eco leathers associated with old-style bars. This helps it drape well over rounded backrests and quilting, while it keeps everything restaurateurs value in faux leather: quick cleaning, resistance to everyday use and a tidy appearance after years. At LumoMeble we use it to upholster made-to-measure restaurant booths, restaurant chairs, bar stools and benches.

What is Cayenne eco leather made of?

Cayenne has a two-layer construction. The top layer is made entirely of polyurethane, the material responsible for the leather look, the smoothness and the resistance to moisture. Underneath is a fabric backing made of a blend of 90% polyester, 6% cotton and 4% viscose. It gives the material its softness and springiness, and lets the upholsterer stretch the covering without the risk of the surface cracking at the edges.

The weight is 380 g/m² and the thickness is between 0.9 and 1.0 mm. These are the parameters of a medium-heavy material: solid enough for venue furniture, yet light enough not to stiffen the seat excessively and to work well with foam. The roll width is 140 cm.

Why polyurethane and not PVC?

Polyurethane eco leathers are usually softer and more “breathable” than PVC-based materials. In practice this means that a guest sitting at a table for longer does not feel stuck to the seat. Cayenne imitates the feel of natural leather better, which will be appreciated especially by venues where the upholstery is meant to convey quality and warmth.

How does Cayenne handle intensive use?

In a restaurant, what matters is not how the furniture looks on the first day, but how it will look after several seasons. A few figures help to judge this:

  • over 100,000 cycles in the abrasion test - a result with a margin that exceeds the requirements typical for public venues,
  • 30,000 cycles in the Bally flex test - the test checks that the surface does not crack under repeated flexing, which is crucial in places where upholstery works hard: on seat edges and in seams,
  • OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certificate and REACH compliance - the material has been tested for harmful substances, which matters in venues visited by families with children.

The dyeing is deep and well pigmented, so the colour stays even also on seats placed in the sunny part of the dining room. Keep in mind, however, that the standard version of Cayenne is not a flame retardant material. If your venue requires a flame retardancy certificate, take a look at Nappatech or Arizona eco leather.

Which interiors and furniture is this eco leather suited to?

Cayenne is very versatile. It works well in places with high guest turnover, where quick cleaning between shifts matters, but also where the furniture should look elegant. We most often recommend it for:

  • family restaurants and pizzerias, where crumbs and sauce land on the seats every day,
  • cafes and patisseries, where light shades of eco leather create a light, fresh atmosphere,
  • pubs and bars, where dark browns and black evoke a classic, club-like character,
  • canteens, staff cafeterias and fast casual venues, where hygiene and simple care matter most,
  • hotels, especially in the breakfast restaurant and the lobby bar.

On bar booths Cayenne looks good both plain and with vertical stripe or diamond stitching. The softness of the material makes the stitching lie evenly, without creases. All of our bar booths can be ordered in this eco leather.

Cayenne eco leather colours

The palette has 25 shades and is built so that the upholstery can be easily matched to almost any interior design. It includes several whites and ecrus, among them a very pure, cool white that looks great in minimalist cafes. A large part of the collection is beiges, caramels and browns, from light sand to a deep chocolate shade reminiscent of classic leather. They are complemented by greys in several saturations, graphite and black, as well as vivid colours: red and shades that let you turn a booth into a strong colour accent in the dining room.

The colours are marked with catalogue numbers. Because photos on a screen never reproduce a shade one hundred per cent, we encourage you to compare the chosen colours in person. You will find an overview of all materials in one place on the colour charts page.

Cleaning and maintenance

This is one of the biggest advantages of this eco leather. Daily care comes down to a few simple steps:

  • wipe the surface with a damp, soft cloth, adding mild soap if needed,
  • remove greasy dirt immediately, before it has time to set in the pores of the surface,
  • after washing, dry the upholstery, especially in the seams,
  • do not use solvents, high-concentration alcohol, bleaches or abrasive pastes,
  • from time to time use an eco leather care product to refresh the surface.

The material does not absorb odours, so it also works well in venues with an open kitchen or a grill.

How to order a swatch and furniture in Cayenne eco leather?

On this page you can see the shades and add a swatch with the full set of colours to your basket. One swatch costs PLN 15 net. One swatch contains all colours, so you can compare them in the target interior, in natural and artificial light. You will find other materials in the fabric swatches section.

After choosing a colour, open the page of the piece of furniture you are interested in and click “Configure”. Every product in our offer can be configured with Cayenne eco leather and your chosen shade, and we will make it to the dimensions of your venue.

Frequently asked questions

Is Cayenne eco leather waterproof?

The polyurethane surface does not let liquids through in normal use, so a spilled drink only needs to be wiped up. However, you should not soak the upholstery or wash it in a washing machine, because water could get through the seams into the foam.

Is Cayenne suitable for a venue that requires a flame retardant material?

The standard version does not have a flame retardancy certificate. In that case we recommend Arizona or Nappatech eco leather, which meet the requirements of the PN-EN 1021-1 and PN-EN 1021-2 standards.

How does Cayenne differ from Arizona eco leather?

Cayenne has a polyurethane top layer, is lighter and softer. Arizona is based mainly on PVC, is heavier, more resistant to abrasion and flame retardant. The choice depends on whether comfort to the touch or maximum durability matters more.

Do light colours of Cayenne get dirty quickly?

On light eco leather the dirt is simply more visible, but just as easy to remove. With regular wiping, white and ecru keep a clean look. Only avoid long contact with dye-transferring fabrics, for example new denim.

How much does a Cayenne eco leather swatch cost?

A swatch with the full set of colours costs PLN 15 net. You add it to the basket directly from this page after choosing the shade.
